Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, ending 50 years of federal abortion rights

The American Supreme Court overturned a 1973 ruling establishing the right to abortion. At least half of the states are expected to restrict or outlaw abortion as a result of the Supreme Court’s ruling. The law will affect millions of individuals, many of whom may choose to travel across state lines for reproductive health care.

Pride marked by celebrations, arrests and grief around the world

Pride events are returning to many cities around the world. In Canada, Pride Toronto’s month-long celebration program also included Trans March and Dyke March. In US, crowds and marchers amidst parades held signs protesting the court’s abortion ruling. In Turkey, people were arrested in central Istanbul after authorities put an end to a Pride march. Turkey was among the few Muslim countries to allow Pride marches, but it has prohibited them since 2015.
