The date of Diwali fluctuates and is generally celebrated for five days. Starting next year in New York City, Diwali will become a public school holiday. New York City recognizes that Diwali is celebrated by a “growing number of New Yorkers.” The City encourages students to learn about Diwali, and takes action to acknowledge Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist communities.

Indian-origin British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, lit Diyas at No. 10 Downing Street and wished everyone a happy Diwali. Diversity celebration wishes were also coming from King Charles III, whose Principal Private Secretary Sir Clive Alderton sent a special Diwali message to the Hinduja community highlighting the King’s commitment to all cultures and religions.
