Having more female CEOs and stronger laws could help stamp out workplace sexual harassment

The 2018 Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) survey shows that 72% of Australians have experienced sexual harassment in their lifetimes, with 23% women and 16% men saying they have been harassed at work.

It’s suggested that having more women leaders could “send a message to everybody that women are respected and women are equal” to improve the overall corporate culture.

How to promote a diversity and inclusion event?

It is not useful to have a successful and valuable diversity and inclusion event without enough audience. One way to create more leads and interest is to release a press release and distribute the PR to the diversity-minded audience.

Manchester mum calls for more diversity in children’s books

A report done by the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education shows that while 33% of children in UK are from a minority ethnic background, children’s books in UK only contain 10% of BAME characters. “…when the children find someone who looks like them they feel like they are welcome in this society; like they add something positive.” What is Diversity and Inclusion in STEM and Education?

‘Shang-Chi’ star Simu Liu credits film’s diverse production crew for its authenticity

The latest Marvel Studio movie – “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” has broken the Labour Day box office record, making $90 million over the four-day holiday in the US. Shang-Chi is the first MCU movie featuring an Asian superhero (played by Simu Liu) and starred primarily by Asian casts ex. Awkwafina, Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Michelle Yeoh and Sir Ben Kingsley. This movie shows a representation of marginalized communities before and behind the camera. Research done by the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative shows that most characters played by the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) have been in the stereotypical categories of “silenced, stereotyped, tokenized, isolated, and sidekicks/villains.” As we grow up being unconsciously influenced by TV and movies with such unbalanced portrayals, we may slowly and gradually form unconscious bias which affects our perception, thinking and decision making.
